Miniature Cannons

Okay, I confess to a minor fascination with weaponry. There are so many amazing inventions created over thousands of years for the express purpose of whomping other people over the head, it’s simply astounding.
That realization aside – I could have so much fun just shooting BBs at objects with this very smart looking little cannon. It may not be politically correct but I don’t care. I feel the same way about long swords, derringers, trebuchets, lugers and machine guns too. I showed this video clip to my husband and left the next morning on a business trip. Not even 24 hours passed before he sent me a picture of the miniature cannon he’d machined in his workshop.
He’s a little dangerous when left to his own devices.
Several prototypes later, a small production series followed. Guess what grandpa got for his birthday? Guess what’s sitting on the shelf above my computer? Cool – in a vaguely alarming sort of way. Miniature cannons are all the rage amongst our family and friends now. BB’s buzz through the air and the smell of black powder perfumes the patio like BBQ.
Which not-politically-correct indulgence do you have? What’s your favorite weapon? Who…I mean what, would you shoot?

I'm great with my feet and fists, having no problem squashing spiders, stepping on ants, putting my fists into a punching bag while I go a round or two. Weapons though? I admire them from afar. I'd love to shoot guns like Angelina Jolie, brandish a sword like they do in the Pirates movies. The truth is, I haven't really ever done it. My boys are both in martial arts, and know how to use nunchucks and kamas – very cool. I envy their skill. Okay, time for me to get out the airsoft gun… and give it a whirl!!

I Want one of these cannons! How cool are they?! Although, I don't think I'd be quite as destructive as the video. I mean, perfectly good can of beer?! come on!My favorite weapon of choice is my son's marshmallow bow. I can shoot whoever and whatever and cause no damage (okay, very little damage)Fun post.

Hah, awesome! I've always been more of a sword-loving girl. The sai is my favorite (short blades often used in pairs–anyone see Elektra or The Mummy Returns?).

I'm not so good with weapons, although I do like crossbows. My husband practices longsword (which is mighty alarming) but it's fun to watch. The extent of my experience with most weaponry is to stick in the hands of a character and let them have at…although the mini cannons are way cool.It was a perfectly good beer, but maybe it was an off-brand? A marshmallow bow sounds pretty cool. Oops…we have a trebuchet too. Now that I think about it, we have a small arsenal of household implements that harken back to other centuries.Hmmm.

Weapon of choice? A sword. Weapons we have at home? Trebuchet, throwing knives, air soft guns, bb guns, bow and arrows, marshmallow shooters, um, I think that's all. Love the baby cannon. Must. Have. One.!

Okay, that's cool. I love the music too. It was also worth three shots to kill a damn computer. I'm assuming it "fatal errored" on 'em. ;-)My politically incorrect weapon of choice is my nickel plated S&W Model 29 .41 Magnum with 8 3/8" barrel.

@Tameri – your bunch sounds like a good match for our bunch. The baby cannons are SO much fun…@Kerry – it is good music and the shots at the computer make me smirk every time. My old 386 (yep, ancient times) should have died such a glorious death. I had to go look up a picture of your Magnum. That's a big gun! That didn't sound politically correct either.

LOVE the video – how adorable is that?! I totally want one. Hubby would totally dig it – I think it'd make a great gift. He recently worked at creating a modified, SUPER potato gun with great pride. At the camp, hubby bought us a BB hand gun. Looks remarkably like the real thing. He thought when he goes out hunting, at least I’d have something to scare off potential intruders? Interesting. At least it makes he feel safe. LOL!

The cannons are some serious fun. After the cousins arrive in September we're planning to line then all in a row (the cannons, not the cousins) and fire off a volley. A miniature re-enactment of the Battle for Quebec…or something.
