Male Ballet Dancers

Inspire is a verb, a word of action. Since I’m not known for being exceptionally active – I seek out and find inspiration in a lot of other places…pretty much everywhere. Some people have suggested (not unkindly) that I have a short attention span when it comes to this topic but that isn’t true. The effect is nearly instantaneous. Either an idea is triggered or I move along to the next whatever.

I collect inspirations when possible: photographs, pebbles, memories, scents, words, sounds, ideas, colors. I have lists I’ve made in different times and places for future recall.

Oddities, associations and transects find their way into my work. People, places, objects, vistas, sounds, smells – anything that prods the senses – can prove inspiring. I thought sharing one of these might spark your senses too.
Dancers amaze me with their physicality and fluidity of movement. I envy their grace and form but am far too lazy to emulate their commitment to training. My passions burn elsewhere but I sure appreciate the human form in all it’s refined glory. I confess to an adolescent infatuation with Baryshnikov. Okay, so I still have a crush. Anyways. Ballet became an inspiration for one of my recurring characters. What inspires you? How do you infuse that influence? How do you inspire others?

What's not to like, right? Dark, brooding, artfully naked.

Thanks. I'd hurt myself trying to pose like that – but I appreciate he can do it. I bet you've got some good ones too.
